To minimise our environmental impact and to retain the historic value of original sash windows and casement windows, we do not replace the glazing as part of our normal renovation and performance upgrade service.
The exception is where the glass is damaged, in which case we can replace (depending on the client’s requirements). Please refer to glazing options for further information.
Windows that require glass replacement, and have part of the glazing element below 800mm from the floor level, have to be replaced with toughened safety glass to meet Health & Safety Regulations.
Similarly, any replacement glazing required in doors below 1.5 metres from ground level also has to be toughened glass.
The glass is replaced using putty, which takes up to six weeks to cure ready for painting. When painting the exposed putty the paint on the putty should run over onto the glazing by 2mm in order to provide the weather seal.
